License

StepForge is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPLv3).

In plain terms: anyone can download, run, and modify their own copy for any purpose, including commercially. If you distribute a modified version to others, that version has to stay open under GPLv3 too — it can't be turned into closed-source software downstream.

This page is a summary, not legal advice — the full license text is what actually governs.

No warranty

GPLv3 already spells this out formally, in its own sections 15 and 16: StepForge is provided "as is," with no warranty of any kind, and its author isn't liable for any damages arising from using it.

In plain terms: use it at your own risk. StepForge drives a real browser and performs real actions — clicks, form fills, navigation — against whatever site you point it at. Nothing stops it from doing something you didn't intend if a test is misconfigured, so test carefully, especially against anything that isn't disposable. The code is fully open — see the repo — so you can always check exactly what it does before you run it.

About contributions

The license governs what you can do with your own copy of the code — it doesn't grant write access to the official repository. That stays maintained by the author. See the feature requests page for how to suggest a change instead of submitting it directly.
